Upcoming Wii Games – Nintendo’s Bid on the Hardcore Genre
This year, we’ll be seeing a handful of of highly anticipated games coming to Nintendo’s popular Wii console. All of these games are designed to take full advantage of the Wii MotionPlus technology, something that developers are getting more and more comfortable with. Some of these titles, such as Red Steel 2, are helping the Wii expand beyond its relatively casual demographic and appeal to hardcore gamers.
Red Steel 2
Red Steel 2 is a first-person shooter from UbiSoft that will take advantage of the Wii MotionPlus controller, allowing players to use their body movements to block, attack, and maneuver through the game world. The game is set in a futuristic desert city, where you play a protagonist battling street gangs and some truly wild adversaries. The game focuses largely on epic boss battles, in which you’ll need to discover your enemy’s weaknesses and exploit them through your own movement. The controls are very fluid, and it’s intuitive to run and gun while landing a punch and blocking an attack all at the same time. Wii owners who haven’t yet purchased a MotionPlus controller will be happy to know that Red Steel 2 is packaged with the accessory. Red Steel 2 drops March 23, 2010, exclusively for the Wii.
Endless Ocean: Blue World
The second installment in the Endless Ocean series is set to shift the focus from relaxation to exploration and adventure, with players taking control of a diver in a realistic 3D ocean environment. You’ll encounter beautifully rendered, and often dangerous sea life, treasure-laden shipwrecks, and anything else you might expect to find in the sea. Players are free to explore the ocean at their own pace, and graphical improvements from the original Endless Ocean make the experience even more immersive this time around. Endless Ocean: Blue World arrives February 23, 2010, only on the Nintendo Wii.
Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of The Moon
In Fragile Dreams, players take control of Seto, a young boy who is one of the last humans alive on alive on the planet. Seto is on a quest to find any other survivors and learn about the tragic past of his world, all while battling demons and ghosts. The world is dark, and players use the Wii remote as a flashlight to illuminate their path, and to detect nearby enemies and useful items. Fragile Dreams offers a highly cinematic presentation, aided by an excellent score that serves to further the feeling of isolation and mystery. This Wii-exclusive RPG arrives on March 16, 2010.
